Hell or High Water Tn Flood and Metal
Posted by TonyNews on Tuesday, August 10 @ 16:16:59 CDT (61 reads)

Anonymous Posted "MetalRecordingServices.com 75 Third St Maury City TN 38050 News Release w/ more photos available Contact: Steve Lott 901 405 4128 Recording Metal Greats in the Tennessee Flood Storm Hell or High Water www.MetalRecordingServices.com--Well, by now youve seen the Tennessee flooding on the national news. The weekend storm of the flooding was wild to put it mildly. Producer Gregg Frye had flown Glenn Barry recent x bass player from Kamelot up to do some tracks on Alan Frye's DethKiss Sonata debut release. Holy deluge metal fans ! The first night we pick Glenn up from the airport weather warnings are all over the news and radio, the NOAA forecast was basically duck and cover. The hail starting lightly around 11:30 pm followed by more rain than this Florida boy has seen with several hurricanes, it just dumped water. By Saturday morning the lightning was all too frequent and still too close. Producer Gregg and writer, guitarist Alan had called flooded in trying to find a way through. Around midday it was still just a little too lightning wild to fire up the gear and start without them. To take our minds of the short deadline, time and flight constraints had given the session from the start, becoming compounded by half a day gone, I get the crazy idea to do a sight seeing drive with Glenn, hey we've both seen hurricanes up close, we'd know when to turn back. I drove him by the gazelles, zebras, al paccas, and the herd with the great white buffalo on the back road behind a safari park. We didnt even make any ark jokes. The NOAA (US Govt Weather) advisories where getting worse, but we had taken our mind off the deadline. When we get back we waited about an hour to give producer Gregg Frye a bit longer to arrive. I had to say damn the lightning and fire up the gear regardless, and start without the producer, hey sometimes you just have to call it. Five hours later Alan had made it through the flood waters, Gregg was not far behind they had some frightening pictures of surrounding towns. The weather wasnt backing off either it was getting even windier and rougher with the clanging. By the time we shut down the session for the night we where swilling beer like madmen to stay calm. The road out front was stream with white water. You could hear limbs breaking, and howling wind, and an occasional object hitting the building. Gregg had a live gig to make early evening, Alan and his driver, a raven haired hottie chick who's name we just wont print right now, had left about 11:30'ish not ten minutes later the tornado sirens went off in Maury City. The recording studio is in an old brick church, so we filed into the dry baptismal. Just a few minutes later Alan is calling and saying law enforcement closed the roads home and turned them back. I told him the sirens are going off hurry, he laughed and said, "I can hear them we are in front of the building." I ran to unlock the doors ushered them to the baptismal re-barricaded the doors, and like a good headbanging gentleman grabbed a round of beers. They went wailing on for a while. When the sirens had stopped long enough to check the radar, we all got out and decided to watch the Iron Maiden documentary Flight 666 while we wound down a bit from the excitement. Lightning shook the building hard about 2 am the power went off the light from outside lit the inside. About two thirty sirens went off again, I checked multiple radar sights and we finished watching Maiden what a night. The next day went about the same, Gregg blocked from making it until evening, scary weather, and all the while Glenn rocked on like a knight of the realm. The tracks got done. They rocked. We all survived a little slice of metal history, and some great metal was made facing down the Great Tennessee Flood of 2010. Written by Steve Lott www.MetalRecordingServices.com "

FEAR FACTORY Narrowly Escape Devastating Bus Fire
Posted by TonyNews on Thursday, August 05 @ 19:36:01 CDT (47 reads)

Northamptonshire, England: FEAR FACTORY in the early morning hours narrowly escaped fire that quickly engulfed their tour bus while in route to London. The fire reportedly stemmed from a back wheel tire before spreading throughout the double-decker coach. BBC News confirms the fire closed down two lanes of the southbound M1 as Northamptonshire fire officials battled the blaze.

FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares released the following comment moments ago: "We had just finished playing a sold out show in Sheffield and we were on our way to London. Everyone was asleep except for two of our crew. At about 3:30am the bus driver noticed smoke coming from the back right wheel. He stopped, jumped out and noticed a flame underneath the wheel well. He tried to extinguish it but the flames were too much. Everyone on the bus was woken up by one of our crew yelling 'Get everyone up and out of the bus.' Everyone grabbed their bags and ran off the bus. We stood on the side of the freeway going 'thank god we all made it out' until someone noticed our merchandise guy was still asleep on the bus. A good friend of ours ran back on the smoked-filled bus and got him out just minutes before the bus was completely in flames."

FEAR FACTORY are currently on tour in the UK continuing performances in support of their latest album, Mechanize. The band completed their most recent American tour on July 27th to a captivated audience in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The following evening the band departed from New York's John F. Kennedy Airport for an additional three weeks of dates in the UK and other various European festivals.

Cazares adds, "our eyes are burning and we were all coughing from the smoke. Some of us lost wallets, money, computers but that's not important compared to our lives. It only took about 20 to 30 minutes for the bus to be completely covered in flames. The fire trucks and the police finally arrived but it was too late to save anything on the bus. A coach bus picked us up and brought us safely to a nearby hotel. We found out only a short while ago that the trailer was saved where all our gear was. But the bus is just a metal frame on the side of the road."

GWAR Lead Singer Back on FOX NEWS RED EYE Tonight For Kneecap-Splitting 12TH Tim
Posted by TonyNews on Tuesday, August 03 @ 18:06:20 CDT (60 reads)

After his heavily-censored 11th appearance on the late-night gab-fest Red Eye, in which he compared the smell of Jessica Parker's twat to "that of a camel-cunt", GWAR lead singer Oderus Urungus has been slated to appear once again as the shows "Interplanetary Correspondent", despite repeated calls from the Vatican to ban the long-dicked alien from appearing in public.
"Screw the Pope. He's old," quoth the warty front-thing. "I'm back where I belong, on top, well, a little left of the top, more like the side...ohhh...fuck it."

Catch Oderus and host Greg "Butterball" Gutfeld on Red Eye, at 3:00 a.m. EDT Tuesday, August 3rd.

In other GWAR news, the Slave Pit, GWAR's pit of slaves, located in Richmond, Va. (because of the excellent crack and large art school), is busily preparing for the re-awakening of an ancient GWAR tradition, the GWAR-B-Que! Back in the early days of GWAR, the slaves used to throw parties in the Pit in the hopes of attracting helpless women. These parties grew in size and fury as other bands and insane artists got involved...but then just stopped happening...

But the GWAR-B-Q is back! On August 8th, 2010, at the Bike Lot in Richmond, Va.! Check www.gwarbq.com for full details, directions, and more.

Intergalactic shock-rockers GWAR are busy working on their brand-new album, GWAR's Bloody Pit of Horror, to be released this fall on Metal Blade Records.

ARMORED SAINT video for 'Left Hook From Right Field' off "La Raza
Posted by TonyNews on Friday, July 30 @ 18:23:01 CDT (45 reads)

ARMORED SAINT video for 'Left Hook From Right Field' off "La Raza" now live!
Legendary LA based metal band ARMORED SAINT recently shot a video in their hometown on July 1st for the track Left Hook From Right Field off their current release La Raza with director Jeremy Schott of Mental Suplex. To check out the video head over to SMNnews.com where the video will be premiered and housed exclusively throughout the weekend. Be sure to check out MetalBlade.tv for production videos, interviews, behind the scenes footage, and classic videos from the Metal Blade vaults.

Vocalist John Bush gives us his description of the video for 'Left Hook From Right Field': "BAD ASS!!! That's how I would describe this video. The photography is absolutely beautiful. Rene, the boxer, did a nobleman's job and is convincing as hell. Jeremy's team was awesome to work with and super efficient. Armored Saint was captured raw and with full power. Sometimes making a video, actually the majority of the time, making a video blows. Not this time!" Bassist Joey Vera adds; "the video came out great and does justice to the song. We were going for a 'Raging Bull' look and I think we captured the vibe for sure. Most videos are pretty boring to make but this one was actually fun. We spent some time shooting scenes 'on the fly' and tried things out that were not in the story line, meaning we had a chance to improvise. The story line is a pretty good representation on the allegories that the lyrics paint. Good fun once again."

La Raza debuted at #49 on the Hard Music Albums Chart, #18 on the Heatseekers chart, #52 on the Top Independent Albums chart, and #2 on the Hard Music Core Stores chart. ARMORED SAINT's La Raza also entered the official German album Charts coming in at #96.

In conjunction with the new video, Metal Blade TV has launched one of ARMORED SAINT's classic videos, Reign Of Fire, HERE. Check it out to get your retro video fix and keep checking back for more classic videos coming soon to Metal Blade TV!

Check out what critics have been saying about La Raza, the band's first full-length studio album since 2001's Revelation:

"The Saint sound exuberant and fully bonded… a contemporary classic rock feel accessible enough to take on Audioslave or Velvet Revolver on their own terms, and win hard." Terrorizer Magazine

"La Raza is balls out and brick heavy." Outburn Magazine

"Simply put, this is the finest record of their career and almost a reaffirmation of the reasons why John and Joey turned down Metallica all those years ago." Metal Hammer Magazine

"The 10 tracks are undeniably Armored Saint and melodic, but that doesn't mean La Raza can't be chalk full of solid songwriting and stellar performances. Quite the opposite, in fact: It is." Bravewords.com

"They reconvened as a creative outlet without any expectations and produced a damn solid collection of songs, all with strong choruses." 8/10, Decibel Magazine

"It's not only the best album yet from the underrated Los Angeles metalheads, but one of the best metal records that we'll hear in 2010. It has huge riffs, massive melodies, oceans of energy and passion, and a battalion of truly anthemic songs. Forged in fire, raised in flame, this is a stunning celebration of a band really finding their range and purpose." Classic Rock Magazine

"[John Bush] one of metal's mightiest voices" The Orange County Register

"Armored Saint, in my opinion is one of the most important bands in American Metal. At its core, LA RAZA is Armored Saint all grown up. Joey's songs are remarkably unpredictable, moving directions unseen." Metal-Rules.com

"La Raza proves to be ARMORED SAINT's most mature album… The spikes and leather are long gone and they've gotten older and bolder, but thankfully the SAINT is still marching on. Recommended." MetalEater.com

"songs like 'Loose Cannon' and 'Left Hook From Right Field' have that timeless essence- you can feel the heart and soul that the band bleeds metal through and through. Early contender for my album of the year." Blistering.com

"Bush spits the lyrics with passion, then delivers a huge chorus that sticks with you… The band is tight and the songs are solid. In short, it's Armored Saint. All that's really left to say is viva La Raza." TheNewsStar.com

"John Bush, Joey Vera, Jeff Duncan, Phil Sandoval and Gonzo Sandoval have truly captured the essence of their sound on this one, unveiling ten tracks of metal bliss, recorded in the tradition of Symbol of Salvation." KNAC.com

"Tracks like 'Left Hook From Right Field,' 'Loose Cannon,' and 'Little Monkey' carry all the attitude and grit you'd expect from this band… driving tempos, intensity and heart… It's raw, real and ultimately a very satisfying listen. In a time when other bands their age either seem to lose their way or try to be something they're not, Armored Saint do neither. They prove that veteran acts can deliver the goods time after time." This special leg of the Pentagrammaton World Tour 2010 will begin in Brooklyn, New York at Europa on August 4 and bludgeon its way through nearly two dozen cities before winding down at the Hostile City Deathfest in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 29. Support will come from Australian black thrashers Deströyer 666 and California death metallers Pathology as well as Black Anvil, Estuary and Cardiac Arrest on select dates. Tickets for all shows are currently available via Enter The Vault:
http://enterthevault.com

Said vocalist/guitarist Nornagest: "ENTHRONED is glad to be back in the States after nine years of absence. The US will be the first nation to witness the new face of ENTHRONED and will be the kick off of the Pentagrammaton World Tour!"

Pentagrammaton, ENTHRONED's ninth studio offering, was released earlier this year via Regain Records. A sonic hailstorm of blasting beats that cruise along with warhead aggression, the band's sinister brand of black metal is powered by a diabolical aura that is theirs and theirs alone. ENTHRONED currently features: Nornagest (vocals/guitars), Phorgath (bass/vocals), Neraath (guitars/vocals), Garghuf (drums) and Tzelmoth (live guitars).

"Pentagrammaton is like a black metal blast from the past, an album that equally pays homage to the subgenre’s early beginnings, yet is exciting enough for today’s extreme metal. " -- Live-Metal

"Pentagrammaton is a very strong effort with numerous devastating riffs, ranging from fast blasting to heavy grooves and all in between. Vocalist Nornagest spews his occult misanthropic lyrics in a decent fashion, true to the scene. This record for sure pushed Enthroned righteously back in the position where they belong, on the forefront of black metal between names like Marduk, Immortal, Darkthrone and Gorgoroth." -- Metal Rage

"...an ordered combination of allure, darkness and power..." -- Blistering

"Pentagrammaton doesn't rely on fast paced riffs on every song and dives into a variety of melodic mid-tempo riffs in order to create a harsh and chilling atmosphere." -- Cosmos Gaming

"So much of black metal is hidden under a veil of distortion and Enthroned uncovers the veil but does not give up any of the substance that you come to expect from the genre." -- Bring On Mixed Reviews

INCANTATION Cancels Weekend Festival Appearances
Posted by TonyNews on Friday, July 30 @ 18:19:50 CDT (41 reads)

Legendary US death metal act, INCANTATION has been forced to cancel their appearances at this year's Stonehenge and Mass Deathstruction Festivals. INCANTATION frontman, John McEntee has issued the following statement,
"It is with great regret we announce that we had to cancel our headlining festival appearance at the Stonehenge Fest in Holland and the Mass Deathstruction Fest in Belgium this weekend. Between us and our booking agent we did all we could to try to make the fest appearance happen, but only after many attempts we had to come to the conclusion that there was just no way to make it happen. We want apologize both fest organizers for giving us this opportunity. we also want to thank all our supporters that were looking forward to our performances. we know that both promoters are very stand up people, and I'm sure both fest will be a great success."

INCANTATION is still scheduled to appear at the Hostile City Death Fest in Philadelphia, PA on August 27th as well as the Noctis IV Metal Fest in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on September 24th. Visit www.hostilecitydeathfest.com and www.noctisvalkyries.com for details on each festival.

Emperor Magus Caligula To Leave DARK FUNERAL
Posted by TonyNews on Wednesday, July 28 @ 13:30:03 CDT (62 reads)

In an official statement from Emperor Magus Caligula, longtime vocalist of Swedish black metal battalion DARK FUNERAL: "I would like to inform all of our fans that on Saturday, August 21, at the Summer Breeze festival in Germany, I will be doing my last show with the band. Naturally I have mixed feelings about this decision, but it is final! They say that every person will have about 15 minutes of fame during their life. Well, I have had a hell-of-a-ride for 15 years now together with Lord Ahriman and DARK FUNERAL. As some people love to spread weird rumors about others, let me make this clear once and for all. I have not committed suicide, I have not taken an overdose, nor are there any personal issues between me and DARK FUNERAL.

However, my life has taken a new turn lately, and I am also getting married this year, thus my priorities in life lie somewhere else.I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our fans for their amazing support during all the 15 years I've been with the band. And I would also like to thank my brothers in DARK FUNERAL for all these years together. Lord Ahriman and I have managed to raise DARK FUNERAL from the deepest abyss, when we have confronted problems before. And there is no doubt in my mind, that DARK FUNERAL, without me, will raise once more, stronger than ever...
Thus I have spoken, thus shalt it be...... -- Horns up, Masse Broberg A.K.A Emperor Magus Caligula"

Added guitarist Lord Ahriman: "Ave everyone! Caligula and I have shared some 15 kick ass years together and I would naturally like to thank my brother for the amazing work he has done for DARK FUNERAL over all these years. It’s been a pleasure indeed working together. You will be missed deeply! But as with everything else, I understand when people change course and get new priorities in life. And I fully respect that. Life moves on after all, and so will DARK FUNERAL.

In the meantime, and while we're searching for a new vocalist, the most logical thing for us to do, is obviously enter writing mood. And that’s exactly what we'll be doing. From now on and until we have found and installed a new killer vocalist, we begin to work on a new full-length. However, you can rest assured that as soon as we have found a new vocalist, we'll set full force, and continue to tour the world in usual DARK FUNERAL manner.

THIS STATEMENT ALSO SERVES AS AN OFFICIAL LAUNCH FOR A NEW VOCALIST!

Naturally, our demands on a new vocalist will be very high, but I/we are fully confident that there are some amazing vocalists out there that would fit us like a hand in glove. So if you do believe that you have what it takes to blow us away with your vocal skills, and to replace Caligula, don't hesitate to send us some AUDIO/DVD files of your vocal performance! Send to: vocalist@darkfuneral.se. Since the show at the Summer Breeze Festivalwill be the very last show we will do with Caligula behind the mic, you can be sure that we'll prepare a very special pyro show. See you there! -- Lord Ahriman and DARK FUNERAL"

AND HELL FOLLOWED WITH GET EVEN HEAVIER WITH NEW VOCALIST, RYAN CAUDILL
Posted by TonyNews on Wednesday, July 28 @ 13:28:01 CDT (55 reads)

Detroit deathcore destroyers, AND HELL FOLLOWED WITH have now spent
quite a bit of time breaking in their new vocalist, Ryan Caudill. His
commanding on-stage charisma and deep growls have given the band's
live presence an extra dimension from even their Billboard-charting
release, PROPRIOCEPTION cannot replicate. Those who've seen Ryan
fronting the band in a live setting have noted an added chaotic
element to the normally high impact surroundings, but at the same
time, there are many out there who haven't seen the band for
themselves just yet. For a small taste of what AND HELL FOLLOWED
WITH's new vocalist, Ryan Caudill has brought to the table, watch him
perform the new track, "Rotting Procession" live from Loganville, GA:

HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE pre-order for reissues now available!
Posted by TonyNews on Tuesday, July 27 @ 15:58:40 CDT (67 reads)

HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE pre-order for reissues now available!
A landing page that houses pre-orders and one song from each reissue is now live at the following location: http://www.metalblade.com/hammersofmisfortune/. The San Francisco based, groundbreaking progressive metal outfit HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE joined the Metal Blade Records roster in early 2010 and is currently at work writing their new studio album, which is expected to be released in 2011. The following reissues will also be made available on vinyl via Metal Blade Records in the fall 2010.

The Bastard (originally released: 2001)
"An unknown San Francisco-based band called Hammers of Misfortune releases a metal opera entitled THE BASTARD, one of the best metal albums ever. It wins recognition in Terrorizer Magazine as one of the 'Top 40 Albums of the Year.' But no one seems to notice. Tragic is only perhaps slightly too strong a term to describe this situation." Maelstrom.com

The band's first release, The Bastard, is an epic tale told in three acts with three distinct characters/voices. The release was met with critical acclaim and was voted among the top 40 releases of 2001 by the writers of Terrorizer Magazine.

The August Engine (originally released: 2003)
"THE AUGUST ENGINE is one of the finest pieces of epic metal that I have ever heard. Hammers of Misfortune have exceeded every expectation that I had coming into this album, and there is something on this disc for fans of all types of metal. Fans of The Lord Weird Slough Feg, US Power Metal, Folk, and NWOBHM especially will want to check this album out." Metal-Observer.com

The August Engine was voted as the best album of 2003 by Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles writer Chris Bruni and received a 10/10 rating from a different writer in the same issue: "Entirely something new, and entirely something creatively masterful." Martin Popoff, BW&BK

The Locust Years (originally released: 2005)
"Notoriety and record sales be damned, I don't think there's a better band out there right now than Hammers of Misfortune. THE LOCUST YEARS is the kind of record that will be talked about fifty years from now - this is a metal opera that fucking rocks unashamedly, dexterous virtuoso metal that never forgets hooks and heart." BLABBERMOUTH.NET

Fields/Church of Broken Glass (originally released: 2008)
"What qualities define a truly great band? Proficiency, of course; technical acumen, originality, a vision - these are sufficient, while heart, soul and depth are absolutely necessary. But there's something else; some magic unknown that makes a band meaningful to its listeners. Whatever that thing is, Hammers of Misfortune has it - a nearly painful beauty, like first love, a radiant sunset, good fortune descending from nowhere.

reminiscent of those glory days in the '70s when ambitious ventures from bands like Genesis rewarded the faithful with an overload of ideas and sensations, albums simply too rich and interesting and complex to play just once, or even 10 times. Hammers of Misfortune combine gorgeous vocal harmonies recalling folk-based classic rock - the Mammas And The Pappas, Jefferson Airplane, the Byrds - with sinuous, complex Opeth worthy arrangements and keyboard pomp Keith Emerson would the proud of. The Hammers are simply the finest unknown rock/metal/folk/Renaissance band working today, and like any lover, I'm jealous of sharing them. But I must." Metal Maniacs Magazine

WEEDEATER Announce 3rd Time's A Charm Tour; Recording Of New Album Nears
Posted by TonyNews on Tuesday, July 27 @ 15:57:29 CDT (56 reads)

Sludge bastards WEEDEATER have announced several new headlining shows throughout the Midwest and Southeastern US this September. Kicking things off in their home state, the band will devastate the crowd at Raleigh, North Carolina's Hopscotch Festival on September 11th, also with Public Enemy, Tortoise, Kylesa, U.S. Christmas, Harvey Milk and tons more. WEEDEATER will be dropping plenty of new material from the upcoming album on these shows, which will lead directly up to the recording of Jason...the Dragon with Steve Albini, finally.

WEEDEATER have been pushed to their limits over the past twelve months. While it's been a year of heavy and successful touring for the band, it was also a year of catastrophic physical injury to this seemingly invincible trio. Leading off with Dixie Dave Collins' shotgun accident which spawned the brutal "Nine Toe Tour" earlier this year, and continuing shortly after that with drummer Keko tearing his meniscus after returning from said tour and requiring surgery. Both of those accidents prevented the group's two previously scheduled meetings with Albini. The group's latest installment of injury includes guitarist Shep breaking his pinkie finger while on tour in Europe this July alongside Black Cobra and Saviours. Luckily, Shep can still riff with his cast so the European tour and the recording session were spared.

These accidents have forced the band to push the recording for their now hard-earned upcoming full-length back several times now. Initially scheduled to take place in January of this year, then again in April, the trio will now step into Albini's Electrical Audio Studio this September 15-19 to hammer out their mammoth 4th full-length Jason... The Dragon, their 2nd release for Southern Lord Recordings.

WEEDEATER 3rd Time's A Charm Tour:
9/11/2010 Hopscotch Music Fest - Raleigh, NC w/ Public Enemy, Kylesa, U.S. Christmas [tickets]
9/12/2010 The Hideaway - Johnson City, TN
9/13/2010 Southgate House - Newport, KY [tickets]
9/20/2010 High Noon Saloon - Madison, WI [tickets]
9/21/2010 Reggie's Rock Club - Chicago, IL [tickets]
9/22/2010 FuBar - St. Louis, MO
9/23/2010 The Muse - Nashville, TN w/ Black Tusk

Check out the tour poster, killer new live footage of WEEDEATER at Hellfest this summer, raging with their cover of 'Skynyrd's "Gimme Back My Bullets" and more at this location: http://www.earsplitcompound.com/site/?p=1026.

Stay tuned for more shows still being scheduled around the band's recording schedule in September, as well as more updates on the upcoming album.
